Western Scheldt Container Terminal

Zeeland Seaports will invest the coming years in the development of the Western Scheldt Container Terminal (WCT). The international developments in the field of containerisation are proceeding so rapidly that if Zeeland Seaports wants to remain a player as a port, it is necessary to have a fully-fledged facility to accommodate deepsea container transport.

With the construction of the Western Scheldt Container Terminal, Terneuzen and Flushing will also be part of a network of logistic service providers responsible for warehousing and European distribution.

With some 2 km of main quay and 900m of barge quay the estimated capacity of the terminal is 2 million TEU per year. PSA/Hesse-Noord Natie will be the exclusive operator of the entire facility.

The terminal will be built in phases. The first phase will have a quay lenght of 900m, a maritime yard of 54ha and a resulting capacity of some 900,000 TEU per year. The first phase can be operational in 2012.
