As port authority, Zeeland Seaports is responsible for the management and development of the ports of Zeeland. An independent, non-profit organisation, Zeeland Seaports resulted from a merger in 1998 of the ports of Vlissingen and Terneuzen.
The area for which Zeeland Seaports is responsible stretches across the municipalities of Borsele, Terneuzen and Vlissingen. These three municipalities, together with the Province of Zeeland, are shareholders in the Zeeland Seaports joint agreement.
Zeeland Seaports is responsible for constructing, managing and maintaining the wet and dry infrastructure of both ports. As port authority, Zeeland Seaports is authorised to purchase land and to contract it to eligible users. Also, Zeeland Seaports is authorised to collect port fees and to write issue port regulations.
